Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu (Newcastle)
"Jiu Jitsu, for me, is not just a sport – it’s an ever-evolving puzzle that you can never really solve. It’s challenging, soul crushing and so technical that its beautiful. The gym becomes a place where you must have complete trust in your training partners and vice versa. Because of that connection, we build close families around our gyms and respect everyone who steps foot on the mat. I think that’s pretty cool" - Ally Orr
Where it all began...
I started grappling in 2015 after being inspired by Ronda Rousey. Watching her hip toss and arm bar all of her opponents was so inspiring and I wanted to be able to do that too. I signed up to my local BJJ gym and started training and was totally sucked into the family atmosphere and hard-working community. After my first class, jiu jitsu became all I could think about.
I was awarded my purple belt under Thiago Braga (Legacy, Sydney) before moving to Newcastle in 2020. Now flying the Guerrilla Newcastle flag, I compete regularly and love coaching other women to show them how to take their power back through jiu jitsu. These days, I love working on wrestling and nogi scrambles.
Hyperfly is a company that supports not only athletes, but the entire BJJ community as well as supporting issues outside of the sport. Being part of a team that encourages and cares about social issues is so important to me and I’m so proud and honoured to be a small part of that.
